Well I finally had a chance to try this place out and my only regret is that I had waited so long. We had lunch here and this place is just awesome! I think everything here would be great. My wife had the BBQ and I had the quiche. Both were great! The sides are awesome as well. The people are very friendly and made us feel right at home. They even brought out some samples of other things they make and it was all great! Everything is made from scratch right there. Also they are know for their breakfast which I plan on trying out soon. They also have crafts from local artists for sale here. They even offer an art class on some evenings which includes dinner. I'm sure it's well worth the $25 per person. Overall a big winner! All this great food for my wife and myself and it was just a little over $17. If you don't try it you are missing out!!!

Chef John has built an incredible restaurant, more of a cafe, on the old Buncombe Turnpike. It is a refreshing spot of goodness in the country, north of Greenville, at the corner of the Tigerville Rd. The Drover is a real treat. The meals here start with basic ingredients, but the way they are put together is quite well thought out. For example, my favorite (and go-to meal) here is the Jamaican Jerk Chicken Salad. Based around an incredibly moist and tender large chicken breast, John makes his own jerk seasoning, with the right balance of heat and flavor. Then, a bed of high quality micro greens supports a generous helping of strawberries and pineapple, topped with feta crumbles, with a solid sprinkling of pecans. He makes his own dressings, my favorite is a custom variation of Thousand Island, called "Rowdy Yates," made with an incredible distinct smoky flavor. The atmosphere is authentic, an ancient building from the 1930's, filled with eclectic crafts. And they hold art classes here every few weeks, dinner included. Worth the drive!

This little place was recommend at the cabin we rented for the weekend. Boy was it spot on! I ordered the lunch special, French toast and bacon and hubby ordered the chicken salad. The French toast was made into a casserole with their homemade bread torn into small pieces with a streusel like topping and the bacon was crisp and probably the best I have ever had! Hubby thought chicken salad would be chicken mixed with mayo, but instead he got a plate sized meal piled with a green salad, tomatoes and more with huge hunks of chicken on the top. He ordered the smokey thousand island dressing and said it was awesome! This cute place has local artists work for sale and I won't be leaving without getting some of the hand crocheted dish clothes like my Grandmother used to make! Definitely worth the stop!

A unique restaurant and local crafts store at the intersection of SC 290 and Tigerville Rd. Only open for dinner on Fridays. The menu changes from week to week. To-Nite is rib nite.

This restaurant deserves more than 5!!! I visit the Greenville / Travelers Rest area from Chicago and I honestly can say this food is spectacular and I plan on eating here at least once every time I'm in the area. It is a small restaurant run by a family and it is open for dinner only on Fridays. The service is outstanding. We got lots of attention! There are some cool artsy sculptures for sale too. Truly a unique place. Don't visit the Greenville area without dining there!

The restaurant is very easy to find and has a lot of character. A good place to get a feel for the local culture. There are shelves stocked full of locally made products, most of which are very reasonable. They advertise dinner and craft nights where you can learn how to make jewelry, wrap gourds, etc. We originally tried the restaurant after purchasing a livingsocial but will certainly be back. We had Saturday breakfast (the only thing served Saturdays). Without the coupon, it's still very cheap. The Baked Berry French Toast was delicious! As were the grits. Plus, awesome friendly southern service.

Nom Nom NOM! So the family hit this place for breakfast today. The scrambled eggs were fluffy, flavorful, a bit crunchy, like little yellow clouds on our plates. The bacon was crisp, perfectly savory, plentiful and just plain good. The bread, butter and marmalade was outstanding, warm, welcoming, buttery and sweet all at the same time. The hash brown casserole was incredible. Lightly cheesy, crunchy, warm, a bowl of warm memories with a pinch of salt and potatoes. We had the same exact order. Double plus good. Wifey said the coffee was good as well. The canned diet coke was, well, canned diet coke. Should have had the coffee. They made up a special scrambled egg and pancake combo for the boy. He loved it. The atmosphere is part country store, part shabby chic, part your Grandma's kitchen on a sunny summer afternoon. All in all, we will be back. Probably for the shrimp and grits special this coming Friday night! The staff was smiling, like they meant it. Very nice folks, working hard on a slammed morning and getting everyone food they all looked like they were enjoying. Next breakfast trip: the sausage and gravy biscuits the policemen were having.

Unreal good. Like the others reviews don't be scared you are in the middle of no where. A dollar general nearby. Once you go in it's like the feeling Dorothy had after her house landed in Oz.! Everything insanely good, home made, friendly. I got the big breakfast and the wife got the French toast. The French toast was unlike any other and nothing to compare it to. Just believe me it will be one of the best things you've ate. This is my first yelp review and it deserves being the first of many.

Had breakfast here yesterday & ordered the tomato pie. It was yummy & the perfect temperature. Great down home place. Lots of locals just love it here. My husband had the best Greek veggie omelet. This was our 3rd visit. We definitely will be back! A very warm & friendly place!

The Hungry Drover really is as good as it gets. Breakfast is unbelievable and their grits are the absolute best I have ever enjoyed. The Hillbillie Salad is unique and just lovely. The Jerk Chicken Salad is a very close 2nd. We love the community and atmosphere. John and his staff make you feel right at home!!!

This place was so charming and just darling. I mean, let me qualify that statement. We were in the middle of nowhere SC and this little restaurant sits at the corner of two highways with literally nothing else around it. It kinda reminds you of the kind of truck stop or random convenient store you would see in a horror movie but the inside looks like their own version of Cracker Barrel. You order at the counter and then find your own seat in the small intimate dining area. The tables have checkered table cloths and are relatively close to one another. This place doubles as a store (hence the cracker barrel comment) so you can find all sorts of local trinkets and gadgets. They sold honey, homemade soaps, lotions, cookbooks, random dolls and other "country kitchen" type items. This place was down HOME in every sense of the phrase. You just felt the southern vibe from the moment you pulled into the parking lot!! The breakfast menu was exactly what you would expect....grits, biscuits, gravy. That about sums it up. We looked around and saw billy bob, Susie lou, missy poo and whoever else eating biscuits and gravy like it was their last meal. The food looked great but I felt my arteries clogging by just inhaling the lard around me! I was fueling up for a hike so I decided to live like the locals live and dive in head first....I ordered the big breakfast which included eggs bacon a biscuit and a cheesy potato hash. I took it up another notch by ordering one pancake as we were told they were homemade very popular. When I tell you everything was absolutely amazing, I tell you no lie. I could have licked my plate and for some reason I don't think that would have been out of place in this restaurant. The bacon was crispy and not fatty and not shriveled which was awesome....the pancake was light fluffy and so good, the eggs were done perfectly, the cheesy potato hash was on a level I can't describe ya'll! It made me want to get up and square dance! It was so so so good!!! Everyone was friendly but not over the top....just had a good old fashioned vibe. The water served in mason jars made the picture complete. The price was also worth noting...all that food was under $10. I would highly recommend this place to anyone in the Greenville/Traveler's Rest area or anyone that is cutting through. It was the perfect stop on the way to Jones Gap State Park for a day of hiking.

This place made me finally sign up for Yelp and start writing reviews. A consummate local southern breakfast/lunch joint, little country crossroads of a place, but of such quirky charm and quality you'd be astounded to stumble into it by chance, like we did. It was peak lunch hour and the locals were all coming in to pick up their take-out. Locals were eating cuban sandwiches, tomato pie and huge jerk chicken salads heaped over piles of greens and veggies. A couple of pleasantly elephantine ladies in line in front of us, three hundred pounders each, easy (always a good sign of an establishment serving hearty portions) ordered the bbq plate with sweet potato crunch and mac and cheese. So I had what they were having, and it was excellent. Anyplace that does bbq this good in upstate SC without actually BEING a bbq joint is praiseworthy to the highest. Service was SLOOOWW omigod man at the register, get it together, but when the food came all was forgiven.

The Hungry Drover is definitely a hidden gem. The french toast IS the best I've ever had. I judge all other restaurant's french toast against the Drover. I can't wait to go back and try something else from this place.
